Ride Planning / Re: 2021 Flint Hills Stampede - Beaumont, KS - Preferred Date

Couple of questions...
RVs and camping: Is there any near other than the Beaumont Hotel? They only have 11 RV spaces although it looks like there is plenty of tent camping.

There isn't much of anything near Beaumont. The closest things I can find on google maps are Fall River Lake, El Dorado Lake, or Eureka. There's a state fishing lake near Latham which appears to allow camping as well, but it's fairly primitive.

Would it be possible to have a swap meet associated with the Stampede? Maybe the Friday evening before or Saturday evening after the ride? I'm sure most of us have parts, accessories and gear we wouldn't mind getting rid of.
Ride safe!

Introduce Yourself / New member from Clinton MO
« Last post by Dave48 on October 21, 2020, 03:26:29 PM »
New member from Clinton MO. My brother lives in Wichita and Iím a member of the Sunflower Antique Motorcycle Club in Wichita, so Iím there several times a year. Iíve been riding most of my life, so Iím not new to motorcycles. Iím an older rider, so not interested in how fast I can get there, just to enjoy the ride. When I was younger, I did a lot of off-road riding, spent many weekends at Chadwick, but just getting into dual sport riding. Looking forward to the 2021 Stampede and other group rides.

Any other members near me?

Introduce Yourself / Return to BackRoads Touring!
« Last post by Ferluga2014 on October 10, 2020, 01:40:10 AM »
Roger, thanks for the information and invite! Some of you know me as the Posterboy picture on the MotoGuzzi Quota that Roger took of me back in 2001! After having a great breakfast with Roger this morning I'm having thoughts of returning to backroads due to the increased safety of riding the backroads compared to streetriding and highway riding. Waay too many motorcycle deaths and wrecks in this area of Kansas! I'm too paranoid about riding the asphalt anymore, I'd rather ride a dirt road than a paved one anyday! So I'm gonna probably sell my 2K Suzuki Intruder 1500 and get something a bit lighter and dust-worthy!

General Discussion / Re: Your Adventure Style

I keep thinking I'll enjoy tent camping, but I rarely do enjoy it.  The main features desired are shower and climate control.  I prefer a motel that allows me to keep my bike close by for easy packing, and to keep kids off of it late at night.

I have a goal of doing a multi day camping trip off of the bike so I can gain the skill, and prove to myself I can do it, but I'm not sure I'll enjoy it.  I'll have to man-up.

I like camping and I can deal with a variety of temperatures. But I really want a decent shower and a meal on a regular interval.  I think my ideal trip would be to hit a motel every 2nd or 3rd night to get cleaned up and kind of re-boot for the next leg of the journey.
