Stampede Frequently Asked Questions-

What should you bring?

Every rider should have, and know how to use:
1.) Completed Ride Waiver given to your Ride Leader
2.) Tire repair tools: tire pump, tire irons, patches, and tubes.
3.) Cellular phone
4.) First Aid kit
5.) Extra water, particularly during the hotter times of the year.
6.) Fastening devices such as bungee cords, duct tape, baling wire, zip ties, and/or extra fasteners and washers.
7.) Know your fuel range.
8.) A GPS unit is nice to have, but not required.

Note:
Most of the folks we'll ride with are very helpful and willing to help if something breaks/you get a flat, etc... but .. don't be 'that guy' who doesn't come prepared, and has to mooch a tube :)

What gear should i wear?

Bare Minimum:
• Full face Helmet and Eye Protection
• Heavy Boots

Recommended Gear:
• Full fingered gloves
• Full Face Helmet and Eye Protection
• Heavy canvas or ballistic synthetic pants.
• Heavy / Reinforced Boots
• Knee / Shin Guards
• Chest Protector
• Forearm / Elbow Guards
• Hip / Kidney Pads
• Hearing Protection

How do the group rides work?

You Are Responsible For The Rider Behind You. Normally, we do not ride close formation on unpaved sections. When we encounter dusty road conditions, distances between riders will stretch even further. Even on large rides, there may be times when you may not be able to see the rider ahead of or behind you.

Use your turn signals / hand signals to alert the rider behind you of direction changes. At intersections and route direction changes, you must always ensure that the rider behind you knows where the group is heading. Don't assume that the person behind you sees your every move ..... make sure they know.

If at any point you cannot see the rider behind you .... slow down. If you still don't see the rider behind you, STOP and WAIT for them. If you wait for the rider behind you, you may lose visual contact with the rider ahead. There is no need to hurry, because he or she should be waiting for you at the next direction change, or when they no longer see you following them. Once the ride leader sees that the "string is broken", he will back-track to the missing rider, picking up other waiting riders along the way. This procedure helps ensure that no one is accidentally left behind and stranded from the main group.

Yeah, expecting a return call from him, actually :).  We'll go over room specifics and i'll bring up the idea of leading a group, too.

We're still waiting to see who all we have volunteering as ride leaders but we hope to have all bases covered!

The ride waivers should continue to be used until we come up with something else, they provide ride leaders with vital emergency contact information should something happen to you while out on the rides. That has always been their primary function.

Good questions Sir!

I not only want to make this ride, I NEED to...so barring unforeseen I intend to attend.
I have a tent still not removed from the carry bag  :o so I need to fix that.
This will be new territory for me and I am GPS challenged. I would have no worries exploring on my own but I don't feel comfortable leading a group that may not appreciate my "seat of the pants" exploring.

I see Marc and Phil offering to lead, can you gents give some details on what you are riding, (since you both have the luxury of multiple rides :P) and maybe some routes you have in mind...?

I am up for some more technical riding but prefer the moderate speeds to soak it up...

Also an idea I had maybe thought of or mentioned...Memorabilia: T-Shirts, hats, patches....etc. Not for profit or funding, simply to have. Maybe some of you in Wichita could check with some sports shops that do this for local sports teams and such...offer pre-orders? see if there is enough interest. This might be another thread in it's self.

I got a message from Phil Denk this morning that Ron Grundy at Blue Stem Lodge in Eureka Ks has once again given us a great Stampede rate of $49.99 single!! I called and made my reservations this morning and talked to him about leading an Advanced group ride, he is going to get back with me after he checks his own calendar and I will let everyone know when I hear back from him... You can call the Blue Stem at (620) 583-5531 and be sure and tell them you want the Stampede rate... Thanks Phil for giving me the heads up...
