Introduce Yourself / So much dirt to explore!
« Last post by ICTJay on January 02, 2022, 12:13:51 PM »
Hey guys.

I logged thousands of miles in the CO mountains on my KLR in a past life. Fast forward to today, add a divorce, and a relocation and Iíve decided to dive back into what I loved before. Dual sport overland travel. Pulled the trigger on my dream bike(An Africa Twin) and I canít wait to explore some KS back road dirt! Wichita based, but Iíll ride anywhere.

I can say from just coming back from riding in Moab, its a lot harder than you are going to except, there are some sections of uber deep sand. the stuff we all love, like powered sand, very fine stuff.

Did you go up in Lockhart? That's really the only section I'd be concerned about. Jeff will go around that for sure, as he'll be on a dyna dirt bike and it won't have the clearance for Lockhart.

Yes we did a part of it, came up to very deep powdery sand, at that point we turned around.

Thanks for sharing, looks like a lot of really nice stuff in the area. I haven't spent much time in Dodge City myself, would be fun to check out some time. Maybe I can find a 250 to go ride some sand with Marc :D

Amazing ride man!  Thanks for sharing the awesome pics...just wondering if you were carrying a big ole DLSR camera or one of those pocket types?

Canon SX620HS point and shoot. Fits in a pocket.

Yes we did Lockhart there are some steep uphill/downhill sections that you are just crawling thru. I was on my Husky 610 and didn't have a lot of trouble, the guy on the Triumph Scrambler not so much.

Thanks,

Glen,
Thanks for the "heads up" on the UTBDR. I'm setting up my 690 for the adventure. Have you did the Lockhart Basin area? I know it will be an awesome ride, but I don't need to break me or the bike for the sake of one section!

Mike
